One of the most nail-biting courtroom moments in recent history was Lamb of God vocalist Randy Blythe’s Czech manslaughter trial. After a fan passed away following head trauma sustained at a Lamb of God show in 2010, Blythe was arrested when he re-entered the Czech Republic in 2012. Video of Blythe pushing a fan off stage was widely circulated, but it turned out not to be the individual who had passed away. In early 2013, Blythe was found “not guilty” and has been a free man ever since.

A more disturbing recent courtroom moment was when As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis pleaded guilty to attempting to have his estranged wife murdered. After hiring a hitman who turned out to be an undercover cop, Lambesis was sentenced to six years in prison. The musician served less than three years of that sentence, getting paroled in late 2016.

In the mid-‘80s, the Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC) set its sights on rock and metal, attempting to censor music that they deemed to be a negative influence on young people. Artists like Frank Zappa and Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider stood up for creativity during this period, offering depositions to the PMRC to argue their case. Snider’s testimony is particularly famous, as he declined to wear a suit and hilariously accused co-founder Tipper Gore of having a dirty mind.
