Matthew Vaughn Already Has a ‘Big Idea’ for ‘Kingsman 3’
There are several reasons to be excited for Kingsman: The Golden Circle (mostly every name on the cast list), not the least of which is that it’s the first time that Matthew Vaughn has returned to direct a sequel to one of his own films. After disappointing follow-ups to X-Men: First Class and Kick-Ass, Vaughn’s involvement in The Golden Circle has us feeling far more optimistic about Eggsy’s next mission. And it looks as though Vaughn is feeling pretty good about it, too, because he’s already cooked up an idea for a third Kingsman movie.
‘The Dark Tower’ May Hold the Key to Better Movie Marketing
Marketing for big-budget blockbusters has become so predictable that you can now mark the passage of time between any given month and a film’s release date by the number of TV spots and featurettes you’ve seen. Despite a handful of early viral promotions, Sony’s approach to marketing The Dark Tower has been fairly unusual in comparison to how other studios typically handle films of similar size and budget. That they didn’t release a trailer (or even a proper teaser) for such a highly-anticipated blockbuster until today, just three months out from release, seemed strange — to say the least. And yet that delayed marketing tactic feels more like a teachable moment than a cautionary tale.
Rumor: ‘The Batman’ Eyeing Josh Gad to Play The Penguin
Today’s rumor is somewhat out of left field, and yet entire plausible once you consider it: According to a suspicious tweet posted by Josh Gad, the actor and recent star of Beauty and the Beast might be playing The Penguin in The Batman. And while an actor sharing a photo of a fictional character seemingly at random could mean just about anything, there is some additional evidence to support his potential involvement.
This ‘Kingsman: The Golden Circle’ Bourbon Featurette Goes Down Smoothly
Matthew Vaughn’s Kingsman sequel is taking Eggsy & Co. across the pond to the good ol’ US of A, where they’ll meet the members of Statesman, the American iteration of the top-notch super-secret spy agency — including new characters played by Jeff Bridges and Channing Tatum. As you can see in this new featurette for Kingsman: The Golden Circle, the agents aren’t the only notable thing about Statesman, which manufactures its very own signature bourbon. And it looks like Kingsman fans (of legal drinking age, of course) will have a chance to taste that branded booze relatively soon.
Jeff Goldblum, Uh, Finds a Way Back for ‘Jurassic World 2’
Holy freakin’ cow — that is basically the only practical response to tonight’s late-breaking news. Jeff Goldblum is officially returning to the land of the dinosaurs to reprise his iconic role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the upcoming Jurassic World sequel. Will he remove his shirt? Will he deliver the signature goofy laugh that spawned one of the greatest YouTube remixes of all time? Will he be bringing any of his former co-stars (like Laura Dern, who recently expressed an interest) with him? We have, uh, so many questions.
‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Gets an Official Release Date
When Lucasfilm initially announced Star Wars: Episode IX, the tentative plan was to release it in theaters on May 23, 2019 — that date was never confirmed, however, and when the studio shifted their releases to December (with the exception of the young Han Solo spinoff), everyone just assumed that it was only a matter of time before Episode IX’s release date was changed, too. That’s definitely not the case, as Disney and Lucasfilm have announced a metric Jabba-ton of new release dates, officially confirming the final film in their Star Wars trilogy for May 24, 2019.
Update: Zoe Saldana Might Have Revealed the ‘Avengers 4’ Title, Which Doesn’t Really Sound Like a Spoiler
While out promoting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this week, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige reiterated that the next two Avengers sequels are separate stories — hence the studio’s decision to nix plans for Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2. Instead, we’re getting Infinity War and Avengers 4, with the full title for the latter yet to be revealed because, according to Feige, it’s kind of a big spoiler for the upcoming Avengers sequel. Maybe Zoe Saldana didn’t get that memo because she might have casually revealed that secret title…but it definitely doesn’t sound like a spoiler, like, at all.
What’s Expiring From Netflix Instant: May 2017
You know the drill: Every month, Netflix Instant delivers a glorious bounty of new titles for us to stream until we can’t feel our butts anymore. But just as Netflix giveth, so must they taketh away, and with each new month comes a list of movies and TV shows that are set to expire from the streaming service — some temporarily, some perhaps forever. Think of it as your monthly reminder to stop procrastinating with that bloated queue of yours.
Take a Tour of the Young Han Solo Set and Meet a New Alien in ‘Star Wars’ Charity Video
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, Lucasfilm’s Force for Change has partnered with Omaze for a huge charity drive commemorating the past, present and future of the franchise. That future includes Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s (still untitled) young Han Solo spinoff, which is still lightyears (OK, months) away from release, so it’ll quite a while before we see a teaser. But with Force for Change heading into hyper-drive, we can expect more videos like the one above, in which Star Wars vet Warwick Davis drops in on Lord and Miller’s set and gives us a special sneak peek at a new alien character.
James Gunn Will Write and Direct ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’
Ever since he signed on to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the biggest question James Gunn has faced — aside from the usual inquiries about Star-Lord’s dad and what’s up with the villain — is whether he’d return for Vol. 3. His answer, consistently: He just doesn’t know. That changed this afternoon, as Gunn himself made an official announcement on his Facebook page — no need to play coy about this one since you already read the headline.
Animated ‘Spider-Man’ Film Casts ‘The Get Down’s Shameik Moore as Miles Morales
With Spider-Man: Homecoming on the horizon, Sony is getting ready to swing into action with another Spidey adventure — an animated, untitled project that doesn’t take place within the live-action continuity, and features fan-favorite Miles Morales (not Peter Parker) in the lead. Today, the studio took a major step forward with the animated film, as they’ve officially found the voice of Miles.
‘Deadpool 2’ Casts Josh Brolin as Cable
After months of speculation, rumors, and a brief flirtation with professional weirdo Michael Shannon, 20th Century Fox has officially ended its search for the role of Cable in Deadpool 2 — and they’re borrowing an actor from the MCU. Josh Brolin is heading over to the X-Men universe, where he’ll go toe-to-toe with Ryan Reynolds’ Merc With a Mouth in the highly-anticipated sequel to last year’s record-breaking box-office hit.
