Oscar Isaac to Hunt Down Nazis in WWII Thriller ‘Operation Finale’
Oscar Isaac seems big on period films these days. He’s got the upcoming The Promise, which is set during the Armenian Genocide during the late 1910s, X-Men: Apocalypse, which takes place during the 1980s, and the new trilogy of Star Wars movies which, as we all know, occur a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away. His latest project will see him traveling to the 1940s to hunt down Adolf Eichmann in World War II drama Operation Finale.
Michael Bay Might Direct a Movie About Hunting Down Mexican Drug Lord El Chapo
Now that he’s finished with Transformers, Michael Bay is in search of his next project, which may come in the form of a movie about elusive drug kingpin El Chapo. Sony Pictures has finally obtained the film rights to the book Hunting El Chapo: The Thrilling Inside Story of the American lawman Who Captured the World’s Most-Wanted Drug Lord, and Michael Bay is on their potential list of directors.
Vin Diesel Says ‘The Fate of the Furious’ Is Going to Launch a New Trilogy
With the eighth on the way and two more planned sequels after that, it seems like the Fast & Furious franchise will never end. And you know what, if Vin Diesel, The Rock, and Jason Statham want to keep making movies where the good guys win by driving quickly and angrily, more power to them! Diesel himself revealed during CinemaCon on Wednesday, after an emotional tribute to the late Paul Walker, that The Fate of the Furious is the first in a new trilogy of films.
‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Sequel May Be Spidey’s Last Appearance in the MCU
The deal between Marvel and Sony that allowed Peter Parker to join up with the Avengers is actually kind of extraordinary. More often than not — all the time, really — studios jealously hold tight to their superhero properties, often, as with Fantastic Four, making movies just so they can keep the rights. But Spider-Man allowed two studios to co-parent a character, allowing Spidey and other Avengers to ping-pong between movie universes, appearing in both. That deal seems like it may be up in the air after whatever follows Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Zack Snyder Keeps Acting Like Superman Might Not Be in ‘Justice League’
Who are the Justice League? The group is comprised of a bunch of different heroes in different combinations based on which comic arcs you’re reading at the time, but it always seems to have three core members: Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. Warner Bros. new Justice League movie didn’t feature the red-caped Kryptonian in this weekend’s trailer, and seems to be acting like he won’t be in the movie. Even Zack Snyder has been cagey about it.
Robert Rodriguez in Talks to Direct Fox’s ‘Escape from New York’ Remake
It looks like Fox is determined to remake John Carpenter’s classic Escape from New York. The studio has set its sights on Robert Rodriguez, of Sin City, From Dusk Till Dawn, and Machete to direct.
Explosive New ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ Teaser Gets the Band Back Together
It’s Friday, it’s finally spring, the birds are chirping, the weather’s finally warming up, and a new Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 teaser is here to remind us that tickets go on sale todayyy! The movie finally hits theaters in May, and it looks like it’s going to be just as much fun as the first one.
‘Ghostbusters’ Producer Says There Are Still Plans for More Movies in Development
While last summer’s Ghostbusters didn’t get off to a very auspicious start, due to “My childhood!”-wailing Internet trolls and bad box office numbers coupled with the fact that the movie has its hilarious moments but was just fine overall, that doesn’t mean we’ll never see Gilbert, Patty, Yates, and Holtzmann onscreen again. In fact, the studio has a number of films in development, according to Ghostbusters’ producer Ivan Reitman (who also produced the 1984 version).
Dwayne Johnson to Light Up ‘Skyscraper’ Thriller Summer 2018
There are three perfect combinations in the world: peanut butter and jelly, steak and red wine, and The Rock and a good old-fashioned blow-’em-up action movie. Good news for Dwayne Johnson fans: If you enjoyed watching him save his family from an enormous earthquake in 2015’s San Andreas, you’ll love watching him save his family from atop a burning building in Skyscraper, officially coming summer 2018.
‘Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz Will Play Domino in ‘Deadpool 2’
Deadpool 2 is officially starting production this year, and after a rocky start that involved a director’s exit and some script finagling, finally the movie seems to be back on track. We know that Cable will be in this one (though we still don’t know for sure who’s playing him), and rumors abounded earlier this year that Fox was casting around for an actress to play Domino. Today, we finally know that, yes, Domino will be in the movie, and Atlanta star Zazie Beetz will play her.
The DCEU May Eschew Linear Narrative, Feature Flashbacks and Flash-forwards
The DCEU has had its work cut out for it from the start. It had a little bit better footing than Marvel because everyone knows who Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman are, but it still seems like Warner Bros. is trying to fit too much information into every movie so that it can prepare for the next on in the series. The most notorious example of this was the commercial smack-dab in the middle of Batman v. Superman that teased the solo movies and Justice League team-up for a bunch of new characters you never see onscreen again. Apparently, in order to tie the next bunch of films in the series together, we might be seeing flashbacks and flash-forwards in the upcoming solo adventures.
Hugh Jackman Would Have a Say in Who Gets to Play Wolverine Next
By now, everyone knows that Logan is Hugh Jackman’s last go-round as Wolverine. It’s tough to see him go — he’s arguably the protagonist of the original X-Men trilogy and was always a welcome presence in the new crop of movies, but he’s a big star now, and Logan is a tone-perfect way to round out his career as that character. Now, the question becomes: who, if anyone, will take his place? The X-Men series will still continue for at least one more movie, and there are a number of spinoffs in the works, so Wolverine will have to reappear somehow, right?
