Jen Austin

It's fun to pick on the boys in the office, fun to play music, and fun to talk to you all day at work. Thanks for listening! I grew up in a one-stoplight town in rural Nebraska. My whole family still lives there and I love going back to visit them, but I also love Texas. Barbecue, fajitas, and great live music....it's the place to be. I've lived in Texas for 16 years now. Austin, Dallas, and here. I've worked in radio from the moment I graduated from college. (The University of Nebraska...Go Huskers!) I've been on a hundred stations at one point or another. I just love radio. Other things I love....let's see. Blue ink. Black bores me a bit. I love cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce and anything that the two happen to touch. I fall asleep in almost every movie I attempt to watch. I have made it through Eat, Pray, Love and Mr. Wright. I like chick flicks. I have an awesome family and love spending time with them. You'll probably hear me talk about my daughters on the air. They're toddler girls who exhaust me, crack me up, and amaze me because I don't think I was ever that smart. I have two miniature schnauzers too. Thanks for stopping by. Now tell me about you.

What is the Most Common Item Hotel Travelers Leave Behind?

Have you ever checked out of a hotel, traveled home, and then realized you left something behind in the room?

I have. On a road trip to the north, my family stayed at a hotel in Wichita, Kansas, and when we got home we could only find one Dora The Explorer sock. In the process of jumping on the bed and running around the room, our 3-year old at the time must have shed a sock and a cleaning person whose daughter also may have had just one sock, hit the jackpot.

What is the most common item hotel travelers leave behind? It has something to do with your smart phone.

Go Daddy Hacked, Affecting Millions of Businesses

Indy racer Danica Patrick's #7 car has become a well-known symbol for the company Go Daddy. Turns out, nobody could navigate Go Daddy out of yesterday's hack that shut down millions of websites.

If you went to a website on Monday and you got an error message, chances are it wasn't your internet connection. A hacker group has claimed responsibility for shutting down Go Daddy-hosted sites and causing millions of small businesses to have a hard time functioning. Why?

Work on US 59 Starts Today

It may be a mess while construction is going on, but it should be worth it in the end. Isn't that the way road construction always goes? No pain no gain.

Construction crews start work today on US 59 and they're shifting lanes at Loop 287. There may be traffic delays while drivers get use to that.

Do You Wash Your Hands in Public?

Do you wash your hands EVERY time you use a public restroom?

Perhaps you wash your hands religiously after using the restroom at a store or restaurant, but not so much at work. Who cares, you know all those people in the office and they're like family, right? You can let the hand-washing slide there. Ew! Family members and those donut-eating co-workers have germs too.

Just how many people skip washing their hands at public restrooms and go ahead and spread the germs?

Eva Longoria Offers New Steakhouse for Women

Tell me if you think this idea will catch on in East Texas.

Eva Longoria is opening a new steakhouse in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve called "She," and it caters to women. Apparently the steaks will be smaller, cuz us gals just need a few bites and then we're ready to get on with the night. Something tells me the prices won't be small though.

What will guys eat?

Lufkin Woman Participates in Miss Texas USA Pageant This Weekend

20-year old Annabel Rivera is a 2010 graduate of Lufkin High School, who hasn't exactly been taking it easy after high school. She's been attending SFA and pursuing fame and fortune in beauty pageants. She'll compete along with 113 other Texas woman this weekend in the Miss Texas USA Pageant in Houston.

It hasn't been an easy road for Rivera, who became fascinated with pageants after watching them on TV. Once she went through the application process and became accepted, she still needed to raise the money for the registration fee and that wasn't easy.

Isaac hits Louisiana, Louisiana hits back

If there's one thing we've learned about Hurricane Isaac so far, it's that the storm has a mind of its own. First it was making a beeline for the Florida panhandle. Then it changed its mind and headed straight for New Orleans. Isaac finally made landfall in Louisiana late Tuesday night, then retreated briefly back to the Gulf, as if Louisiana had just sucker-punched it right in the face and forced it to think twice about coming in there. But alas, Isaac has hit our neighbors to the east, and hurricane warnings are out.

What does that mean for East Texas?

High School Football Time in East Texas

It's that time of year when movie theaters and restaurants are deserted on Friday nights, because everyone flocks to high school football games. Football in Texas is king, and with the new season upon us, hopes are high that our teams are going to impress and win.
