Nacogdoches ‘American Legion Post 86′ Raising Money For Veterans

Don't want to openly 'dis on how our veterans are treated after active duty, but this may get your blood stirring.

Remember those three branches of government you learned about in elementary school?  What were they now?  Oh yeah, the "Executive", "Legislative", and "Judicial".

Well, the political faction gets a mountain of benefits after their term has concluded, while many members of our armed forces past and present, struggle to cope with physical and mental illness, in addition to making a decent salary.

Then they have to listen to yet another spineless blow-hard on CNBC talk about the need to close another veteran's hospital, all while explaining the urgency to study the mating habits of the nine tentacle octopus on Flag Day.

Make-A-Wish grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.  For example, a trip to Disneyland for the child and her immediate family, all expenses paid.  Their goal is to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

Houston Texans QB Donates Generous Amount to Texas Childrens’ Hospital

I'm fed up with sports athletes who have public intoxication problems, domestic violence raps, criminal mischief reports, and are in my opinion, impressionable dunder-heads, who should have no more a second chance than any one of us in the real world.

The latest NFL mug shot is that of Seattle Seahawk's running back Marshawn Lynch.  Dallas Cowboy's wide receiver Dez Bryant preceeded his arrest by a couple hours.  Then there's Denver Bronco's defensive end Elvis Dumervil, and former Dallas Maverick, Jason Kidd; completing the superfecta of arrests within a 72 HOUR PERIOD!

Let me pause now to memorialize the disclaimer that appears at the beginning of each "COPS" episode, and that is, "all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty".

After reading more about the Boys and Girls Club of Deep East Texas, I wish I was a kid again! It sounds like they're learning some valuable life skills -- even how to change a flat tire. Central and Zavalla High School Students Excel in Giving ‘The Gift Of Life’

Do you weigh more than 110 pounds?  In good general health?  Have current photo ID?  Then donating blood may be in the cards for you.

With a parent's consent you can begin donating at age 16.  Don't expect a shiny medal, a badge touting accomplishment, or even your peers to be congratulatory.  At best, you may get a certificate, or "pat on the back" for an unselfish gesture towards community service.

Texas Woman Camps Out On Church Roof For Charity [VIDEO]

Kennedale, Texas in Tarrant County boasts a population of about 6,700.  According to the Internet driving distance calculator, it lies 200 miles north of Lufkin, and I'll bet it is not on the plotting coordinates of where you may spend your summer vacation.

But one woman in town, Robin Evans, puts Kennedale on the map each year, and she doesn't do it for personal gain, but rather, in trying to make a difference in her community.
