Texans Break World Record With Frito Pie

I have to admit, I didn’t try the delicacy that is Frito pie until I moved to Texas. Growing up in Nebraska we sometimes mixed chili, cheese, and saltine crackers together, but the genius of replacing the Saltines with Fritos just didn’t occur to us.

Texans are onto something! Frito Pie is delicious, and who cares how fattening.

We Texans broke a Guiness World Record on Monday with a Frito Pie that weighed over a thousand pounds. Some states might be ashamed, but in Texas its a badge we wear proudly. We just may need a Tums to go with our badge.

Last week, a U.K. group struck fear in the hearts of bacon lovers everywhere when it predicted an "unavoidable" pork shortage next year. But now experts say there's no real threat of an impending "aporkalypse" here in the U.S. and that the organization's report amounts to nothing more than propaganda. Whew!

The Average Coffee-Drinker has at least 2 Cups Per Day

Coffee is part of life for many of us.

Before making the big decision about whether or not to become pregnant, I asked my doctor if I could still consume my daily 2.5 cups of coffee during pregnancy. It’s a must. If I have a sip less than that, I can feel it. And I knew I may not survive pregnancy if I had to ween myself off, or worse yet, quit cold turkey.

If I could drink coffee while pregnant, then ok, I’d do more forward with the baby-havin’. If coffee was off limits during pregnancy, then that would just be a life change too huge to handle. Must have coffee!

36th Annual East Texas Poultry Festival Coming To Center, TX Beginning October 4 [VIDEO]

Center is only about a one hour drive from Lufkin, and 30 miles or so from Nacogdoches, so with the 36th annual East Texas Poultry Festival commencing next week, you may want to make plans now.

It's everything chicken when the Poultry Festival Queen and her court begin the "cutting of the feathers" ceremony on the Downtown Square at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 4.  Look for nearly 40 vendors in arts & crafts, carnival and food (will you be able to get a "hamburger"?), plus LIVE entertainment under the lights.

Happy Birthday Lufkin!

May I have your attention please.  Someone was asleep at the switch yesterday, and because of this, you were not given the opportunity to "Party like it's 1985" (the "Prince" song?).

I and I alone, shall burden the entire blame for this miscarriage of journalism, and do hope my staggering incompetence can be excused.

Old Chinese Dessert Has Celebration TODAY!

Do you believe in luck over knowledge when it comes to surviving games of chance?  For example, I happen to know someone who proclaims to be a wizard when it comes to picking the ponies.  Have even accompanied him to Louisiana Downs, where I observed some minor magic.

I believe that no matter how intuitive one is, being a Svengali at the track likely results from the marriage between luck and knowledge.

Eva Longoria Offers New Steakhouse for Women

Tell me if you think this idea will catch on in East Texas.

Eva Longoria is opening a new steakhouse in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve called "She," and it caters to women. Apparently the steaks will be smaller, cuz us gals just need a few bites and then we're ready to get on with the night. Something tells me the prices won't be small though.

What will guys eat?
