Are Landline Carriers, Photo Finishing and Record Stores Soon to be Obsolete?

Just witnessed an astonishing statistic that not only dates me as being a dinosaur, but also increases my anxiety threshold by a factor of 500.

Listening to the Q107 music library, you may remember companies like Tower Records and Licorice Pizza; teen hang-outs during your adolescent days of growth?  Heck, Fast Times at Ridgemont High was my life.

School’s Out, Why Can’t Workers be Released for the Summer?

We grew up having our summers free, out of school. Why can't that yearly sabbatical continue into adulthood?

Could you imagine having the summers off? We'd be at Lake Sam Rayburn every day sunning ourselves, not thinking about conference calls and work meetings and deadlines. We could go the the movies whenever we wanted, and go out to lunch and down a margarita with the quesadillas if we wanted to. You can see I've put some thought into this.

Some offices do relax a bit during the summer. My spouse's office hours end at 3:00pm four days out of the week during the summer. What summer benefit would you most like to see?

‘Garage’ Sales – A Great Place To Find Treasures

Got lost the other day driving through a maze of "Loops" that took me to Texarkana, when I really wanted to be in San Augustine.  Wasn't a total waste of time though, as my illustrious navigational knack inspired an adventurous detour to the depths of the trifecta, best known...as the ARK-LA-TEX.  Okay, I hear ya'...in English please.

Is the Facebook Founder a Good Tipper?

I have to say I’m not very good at math, and I have no interest in trying to figure out what a twenty percent tip is on a $46.56 bill. I always make my spouse do the arithmetic. And you?

Whether we’re dining at Logan's Roadhouse, the Outback Steakhouse, or Cotton Patch, we usually try to be generous with our tips. We know you guys and gals work hard for the money. And besides, we feel like we need to apologize for the discarded french fries and crayons and kids menus on the floor, tossed by our three kids. A good tip is a great way to say, “I’m sorry you had to put up with this uncontrollable family.”

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is a billionaire and can afford big tips. Is he generous?

Holiday Weekend Means Texans Hit the Road

Triple A says more than 34 million Americans will drive more than 50 miles from home over the three day Memorial Day weekend. In Texas, that's 2.8 million people clogging up the roads. And your plans?

My family plans to skip the road trip and do something totally different....backyard camping! Many of my friends have been doing it lately with their kids and posting the pics on Facebook. I'm inspired to try it. Apparently all we have to do to have backyard fun is haul the sleeping bags outside and pitch a tent back there, and save the cost of admission to a park. It is pretty smart. You have your own private space with no wayward frisbees finding their way into your business, and all the conveniences like showers and toilets stay within just a few steps. AND, you don't have to lug that heavy cooler either, with frosty beverages in the fridge nearby.

If you do hit the road this weekend, know the police will be watching CLOSELY for wrong moves.

Farmer’s Market Open For Business In Nacogdoches

I'm always looking for local honey, since I've heard it's good at helping with local allergies. Getting too scientific about it might make my head explode, but I've heard ingesting what the bees produce is supposed to help fight off seasonal allergies. I'm giving the kids a teaspoon a day and they don't have many sniffles.

With the Farmer's Market is open in Nac, you can not only get local honey, but just about anything else homegrown too.

She Did It – 13 Years of Perfect Attendance

A few weeks ago we brought you the story of Loren Huffstetler, who hadn't missed a day of school her entire life and was on her way to a pretty amazing attendance streak that stretched from kindergarten and elementary school, to middle school and junior high, then high school. Well, the school year has ended now for Loren at the Hudson ISD, and she did it. Perfect attendance feat accomplished.

That's thirteen years of not missing a day. She's never taken a sick day or faked the flu to get a day off, so she doesn't know what it means to make up work or ask a classmate to borrow notes. Pretty impressive!

What's the secret?
