Pineywoods Fair Food Drive A Success; Fair Continues This Weekend

There is a chance of rain this weekend, but overall it should be a good weekend to be outside, with highs in the mid 80's both Saturday and Sunday.

The Pineywoods Fair continues at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center through Sunday, with livestock judging, cheerleading, a tractor pull, and of course the midway rides and great food.

One East Texas Town May Ban e-Cigarettes

E-cigarettes are becoming more and more popular, and another East Texas Town may try to put a damper on that national trend.

Nacogdoches is thinking about moving toward a ban on e-cigarettes, as more towns across our neck of the woods, and across the state and country, continue to research the effects of using them.  E-cigarettes create a vapor that is inhaled, and some call it "vaping."

Careers Are Shifting; More Women Are Becoming Farmers

Farming used to have a male-oriented stigma attached to it.  I grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska where my dad and grandpa raised corn, wheat, milo, cows, pigs, and chickens.  And there were many male farmers in that section of the world that did the same thing.  Sometimes women helped around the farm, but never did they run a farm of their own, in my experience.  Now that's changing.

Popular Walmart Employee in Nacogdoches Passes Away

Having any job for twenty years is a pretty amazing feat.

Howard Parks held his job at Walmart in Nacogdoches for 20 years, as a sales associate in the electronics department.  He was beloved by his co-workers there, and by many customers who knew him by name.  He died yesterday at the age of 50,  due to complications from sores, infection and respiratory problems.
