Metallica’s ‘Black Album’ Certified 16-Times Platinum
Metallica's self-titled 1991 record, aka 'The Black Album,' is already the best-selling album of the SoundScan era, and now they're pulling away from the pack. 'Metallica' received its 16-times platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America in December, meaning (as you might guess) that it has surpassed 16 million in sales. The certification was one of 10 awarded to the band last month.

Lufkin Animal Shelter Receives National Buzz Online
A few days ago, Stacey Faulkner tweeted a photograph of a dog potentially being mishandled by workers at a Lufkin Animal Shelter. That caught the attention of not only her own Twitter Followers, but also the attention of singer Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20.
The firestorm led to an investigation into the animal's treatment at Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter.

Flu Cases Up in Texas
Maybe it's not just the effects of the New Year's Eve drinks that you're feeling today. Many people in East Texas are sick with something other than the "brown bottle flu" right now.
Flu cases are up in Texas. Emergency rooms from Dallas to Lufkin to Houston are saying they're seeing more flu cases right now, with fevers of 102 to 103 and that yucky, awful, achey feeling. And of course the other pleasantries associated with the flu that we don't need to mention.

Busy Travel Weekend Ahead in Texas

Gas Prices Fall Across East Texas
Have you driven by a Lufkin gas station lately and done a double take to make sure you’re not seeing things? Prices at some stations have dropped below the $3 mark. It seems odd to cheer for gas, but it kinda makes ya wanna say, “Woohoo!” Especially if you’re traveling for Christmas.
In mid to late November, gas prices in East Texas were about 15 cents higher than they are now. A gallon of gas averages about $3.10 in Texas, down from $3.25 around Thanksgiving.
