Sure do hope the Humane Society of North Texas catches the coward(s) who left 92 dogs to fend for themselves along country roads.

Let me be blunt. Find these people responsible (there is a $500 reward being offered), and I will personally drive them to a secluded location on California State Route 190, then with the help of my German Shepard "Cujo", will remove them from the vehicle. With a twenty mile hike back to civilization, it shouldn't be too long before flashbacks settle in about their animal cruelness.

The new lion cub at the Ellen Trout Zoo has a name! It's been a summer of births at the zoo, with several intriguing new babies born. The lion cub has been named Sango.

The city says the name has meaning - Sango is the Yoruba god of lightning and thunder.

We've got a chance to catch a sneak peak at the little lion cub this weekend, but we'll have to be on our toes.

Dogs think they're being tortured! Mine run to take cover in the bedroom every time they hear a pop. If we can't find our two miniature schnauzers shaking under the bed, we can usually find them with the jitters billowing under the low rack of clothes in the master closet. The muffled pop may be coming from a mile away outside, but the dogs start whining and yelping like the firecrackers are being shot off from the kitchen sink. Noise is noise, and they don't know how far away it originates. They just think they're being shot at.

About three weeks have passed since I met a man while filling up the tank of my 1974 lime green Pinto with 8-track player. Have you seen me driving around the city? The man with the Arkansas license plate on his vehicle started complaining about nothing to do here. "Been visiting relatives for four days", he said. Must have been his wife in the front seat with his two children in the back. 10 years old I'm guessing. He continued his calm rant by telling me that in the small Arkansas community where he resided, there were far more attractions to attend. His disdain for the word "Lufkin" was evident, almost as if he had just swallowed a grasshopper.

Just this morning, on my way to work, I encountered three stray dogs in three different locations roaming our landscape. Two younger animals (1-2 years old) and a third pooch with more than a touch of gray around his mouth. No collars! No I.D.! All three allowed me to get close enough for some well needed affection. Spent about 10 minutes with each, then after leaving the "scene of the crime", glanced in my rear-view mirror to watch their journey continue. Sad!
