Changes are coming to Interstate 69. Of course, there will be construction headaches to put up with before traffic starts getting happy with the improvements, but if we can hang in there through that, the result should make travel easier around Lufkin, Nacogdoches, and Diboll.

Millions of dollars worth of road projects were announced by the Texas Dept. of Transportation yesterday, and that includes construction on I-69 in the Lufkin and Nacogdoches areas. It's in the early stages now, but improvements will eventually come, and the state build a relief route or bypass off the existing U.S. Highway 59 that would move traffic east of Diboll and Lufkin.

Eventually, developers hope that brings more retail to Lufkin. The construction delays may not be anything to look forward to, but the improvements could ease future headaches.

And by the way, a very busy travel week starts today with the 4th of July holiday next week. At least we don't have this major construction project to contend with just yet.

But we will have plenty of other cars on the road who will seem hell-bent on cutting us off, getting ahead of us, and owning the road. We know it's not you, it's everyone else. So drive safe!
