Ex Journey Drummer Deen Castronovo Joins The Dead Daisies
Former Journey drummer Deen Castronovo has joined supergroup The Dead Daisies in place of Brian Tichy, they’ve confirmed. Castronovo has lined up with John Corabi (ex Motley Crue), Doug Aldrich (ex Whitesnake), David Lowy and Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy) to start work on what will be the band’s fourth studio album.
The Dead Daisies said in a statement: “Deen is here in Nashville with us where we are beginning the recording of the new album today. We’d like to thank Brian Tichy, who has decided to pursue other projects next year. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors. We cannot wait for you guys to hear this new album we are working on – it will be a real bone-shaker!”
It’s Castronovo’s highest-profile job since being fired by Journey in 2015 following his arrest for offenses against his then-fiancee, including domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He was jailed for 15 days and sentenced to four years’ probation plus domestic violence and drug counselling. He spent a further 75 days in rehab, marking his fifth attendance. “The beautiful thing is that the band, they were very kind. They left me with a substantial amount of money to make sure that I was taken care of,” he told Ultimate Classic Rock last year.
“I finally found my priorities and priorities are definitely not in things that I thought made me happy. I’m filling a hole that only God and sobriety could fill. Nothing else can really take the place of being in the moment and being there for the family and realizing that, ‘You know what? I don’t need any of that stuff.’”
After his departure from Journey, Castronovo recorded parts for former bandmate Jonathan Cain’s solo album What God Wants To Hear. In September he announced plans to record a thrash metal album with former Quiet Riot man Rudy Sarzro and Anthrax ex Dan Spitz. His band Revolution Saints, featuring Aldrich and Jack Blades of Night Ranger, released their second album Light In The Dark in October.
