There's a good chance you may know someone having Diabetes, and there is also a good chance that you may adorn the disease yourself one day.  Diabetes affects over 25 million people, or better than eight percent of the population.

It's important to keep Diabetes under control because it attacks vital organs, disrupting the ebb and flow, if you will, of other bodily functions.

Running rampant throughout my family, I'm consistently checking blood sugar readings monthly, but there are some blueprints to follow, should you suspect you have, or have been diagnosed with Diabetes.

My first suggestion would be to consider visiting Diabetes awareness workshops right here in Lufkin.  The "Area Agency on Aging of Deep East Texas" is conducting these workshops at the following locations:

Ministries in Action (Tuesday's through March 12) from 9:30 a.m. to 12 Noon, located at 910 Kurth Drive in Lufkin.

Another group of workshops will take place later in the year at:

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service (Wednesday's from March 13 through April 10) from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., located at 2201 South Medford Drive in Lufkin.

Keep your wallet and purse at home since there is no fee to attend the "Taking Control of Diabetes" workshop.  Additional info may be obtained by calling (409) 384-7614.
