East Texas Bell-Ringer Ties Record
An East Texas man tied this year’s record for the longest consecutive bell-ringing streak in the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.
Andre Thompson of Tyler joined fellow ringers, Salvation Army Maj. Marcelino “Butch” Soriano in San Diego, and James Brickson of Albert Lea, Minnesota in the record books, by ringing for more than one hundred consecutive hours.
We might argue that Brickson and Thompson had a tougher time of it, braving cold temperatures and wintry precipitation on their way into this year’s Salvation Army record book. San Diego seems like an ideal spot to ring the bell. But it was all for a good cause.
All three did their part in raising thousands of dollars for the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign, and decided to end the competition in a tie after 105 consecutive hours of bell-ringing.
Congrats Andre. Thanks for doing Texas proud!
