Saturday, severe storms produced killer tornadoes just east of Dallas.  Today, Sunday, East Texas looks to be in the bull's eye.

According to a Sunday morning forecast from the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, East Texas has an enhanced risk of severe storms producing hail, heavy downpours, gusty winds, and tornadoes.  In fact, the Weather Channel has placed East Texas and Northwestern Louisiana in a 'TORCON 5', according to this exclusive index, anyone living in Lufkin, Nacogdoches, or any area city has a 50% chance of having a tornado within 50 miles of their location.

At this time, it looks like the biggest threat of severe weather will take place between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. today.  The chaotic weather is the result of a strong and long-overdue cold front pushing into the area.  Today's highs will still make the 70s but much colder weather should start filtering in this evening.

This same system was responsible for last night's outbreak of tornadoes in and around Rowlett, east of Dallas.  At least 8 deaths have been reported in that area, many resulting from persons who tried to ride out the storm while in their vehicles.

As of 7:30 a.m., no severe weather watches nor warnings have been issued, but it seems that severe weather is imminent for us.  Please make sure that you have already figured out contingency plans in the case of life-threatening weather. When watches and/or warnings are issued for East Texas, we will broadcast those immediately on KICKS 105 and update them as well on our website, Facebook page, and Twitter account.
