Eddie Vedder + Ex-Pearl Jam / Red Hot Chili Peppers Drummer Jack Irons Perform Pink Floyd Classic Onstage

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are wrapping up the first leg of their North American tour with openers Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue along with former drummer Jack Irons. At their stop in Seattle, Wash. last night (March 17) a local rock legend hopped onstage with Irons to perform Pink Floyd‘s “Shine on You Crazy Diamond.”

That legend was Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder as he reunited with Irons, who is also a former member of the grunge icons. As parts of the song played out through the PA system, Irons began building the tension behind the kit. Gaining momentum as Vedder became increasingly engaged, tapping his foot with more vigor as the moments passed, the two delivered a unique rendition of the timeless song

Pearl Jam will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Neil Young on April 7 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. There has been controversy over the band’s induction, namely over former drummer Dave Abbruzzesse being snubbed from the list of Pearl Jam inductees. Irons, who is already a Rock Hall member for his work with RHCP, also failed to get the nod for his work with the group, though the band recently extended an invite to all of their past drummers to join them at the induction.

Irons was a fleeting member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers during their early years, sitting behind the kit in 1983 and again between 1986 and 1988 and performed on all of The Uplift Mofo Party Plan as well as select tracks on other releases. He later joined Pearl Jam, playing on Vitalogy, No Code and Yield.
