I went to a gathering recently at Louis Bronaugh Park.  Wasn't a big crowd.  Of course, those who did attend, likely wanted to signify a new beginning.  As for those that weren't there, it could be that more healing time was needed in the aftermath of being a victim of Sexual Assault. Did you know the month of April is considered 'Sexual Assault Awareness Month'?

Statistics surrounding Sexual Assault are horrible, the crime itself is heinous, punishment is ambiguous (probation to life), and first responders often helpless.  But, even though it is only happening inches at a time, the dedicated support of the Family Crisis Center of East Texas, is making a huge difference  --  their own "assault" on this matter, if you will.

From emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis hotline, crisis intervention, legal and personal advocacy, counseling, peer support groups, medical accompaniment and self sufficiency services, the Family Crisis Center of East Texas is helping victims of Sexual Assault and Family Violence.

To reach the Family Crisis Center of East Texas, 936.639.1681, or FamilyCrisisCenter@suddenlink.com.  If you, or someone you know has been sexually assaulted, call the 24-hour crisis hotline at 1.800.828.7233.
