Flash Flood Watches Issued for Deep East Texas

And the rains just keep on coming.

The National Weather Service has issued three separate Flash Flood Watches for portions of the Pineywoods. 

Angelina and Nacogdoches counties are included in the first watch which includes much of northeast Texas and the ArkLaTex.  This Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Thursday afternoon at 4 p.m. Three to six inches of rain have already fallen throughout the area and an additional 2-3 inches, or perhaps more, is expected over the period.  Angelina, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Sabine, San Augustine, Cherokee, and Rusk counties are included in this watch.

A second Flash Flood Watch has been issued to cover the greater Houston area.  This watch continues until 7 p.m. Wednesday evening.  Polk and San Jacinto counties are included.  Expectations are for less than an inch of rain to fall from storms in these areas, however, isolated downpours could cause 2-3 inches of rain. Considering the historic rainfall in much of this watch area, any downpour could lead to immediate flash flooding.

The final Flash Flood Watch covering the Pineywoods in one that includes most of Southeast Texas and adjoining counties of Louisiana.  This watch includes Tyler, Jasper, and Newton counties and is in effect from 7 a.m. through 7 p.m. Wednesday.  1-3 inches of rainfall is expected across an area that is already saturated and this could lead to isolated flooded.

No watches are currently issued (as of 6 a.m. Wednesday) for Trinity or Houston counties.
