Green Day's American Idiot is about to live on in another incarnation. The 2004 concept album had a successful run as a stage production, but is currently in the process of becoming a film. Singer Billie Joe Armstrong reveals in a new interview with NME that the movie will differ somewhat from what fans saw on the stage.

"I think it’s going to be a lot different from the musical. It’s kind of, more surreal but I think there’s going to be parts of it that might offend people -- which is good. I think it’s a good time to offend people," says the singer, who adds that there is currently a re-write underway for what will eventually be the HBO-backed movie.

He adds, "I think there’s just going to be a lot of imagery that we couldn’t pull off in the musical in the stage version. You know, I don’t want to give away too much, but it will be shocking in a way which makes you think."

While the decade-plus old American Idiot continues to thrive in its many forms, the band does have a new album to support as well. The group released Revolution Radio earlier this fall and while the film is on their "to do" list, there will be plenty of touring in support of the new album in 2017.
