John Wick is the gift that keeps on giving, and by ‘giving,’ we mean ‘killing 15 dudes within 60 seconds.’ The sequel stood tall at the box office, delighted audiences, and wowed critics, and now that franchising has been deemed a safe option for the series, more is in the works.

Director Chad Stahelski sat down for an interview with The Independent to promote the home-video release of John Wick: Chapter 2, and dropped a couple tantalizing pearls of information. For one, the question of another sequel arose the second that Stahelski demonstrated he could re-bottle the original’s same magic. The director spoke a little more directly to the eventuality of a John Wick 3, specifying that “we’re in that magic spot called development, but it’s going okay.” He went on to clarify:

Myself, Derek Kolstad, and Keanu are all very involved, story-wise and character-wise. We’re all very invested in this world. It’s a very collaborative, creative team. We have a lot of discussions about it. We’re pretty much knee-deep in it... We are going to put in something about the High Table, how that all works. We’re going to put in something about where John comes from, and where he wants to go. I don’t want to say too much more, but it will be a nice completion to Mr. Wick’s journey.

The possibility of a John Wick television series was also bandied about, with Stahelski confirming that Lionsgate was on the job:

Lionsgate is working on that right now. That’s up and running. That could be fun... There are a lot of ideas being thrown around right now. A lot of people working on it. I don’t know if they’ve locked in a consensus yet. But they have some very good people on it.

With his former co-director David Leitch readying Atomic Blonde for a public release, the original John Wick team is poised to take over the world of action filmmaking. And we may be all the better for it.
