Listen, we’re all only human. Even the most ardent fans of the Hollywood rumor mill can still hit their limit for television spots and blurry set photos. When it seems like every other post at a news site is of some upcoming comic book movie you don’t care about, take a moment and remember that there are films out there that play the marketing game better than anyone else. For me, movies like John Wick Chapter 2 are what make the rumor beat all worthwhile.

With New York Comic-Con going on this weekend, odds were always good that we would get a few new photos or videos to help us pass the time. It turns out we didn’t even need to wait that long: on Friday, Lionsgate (via Heroic Hollywood) released the first theatrical poster for their long-awaited John Wick sequel, and oh brother, is it a doozy.

THAT is how you advertise a John Wick movie. Keanu Reeves looking as bruised and battered as ever? Check. Completely overwhelming odds for him to overcome? Check. The promise of gratuitous violence? Check and check. This first poster for John Wick Chapter 2 promises a lot more of the same from the first film, which is the best possible outcome for anyone who loved John Wick as much as I did. Some sequels need to innovate and find new directions for their characters to go. Some sequels just need to give us a few more hours in the same expansive universe. I’m pretty sure we all know to which category John Wick Chapter 2 belongs.

Here’s the full plot synopsis for John Wick Chapter 2:

Keanu Reeves returns in the sequel to the 2014 hit as legendary hitman John Wick who is forced to back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

In addition to Keanu Reeves, the film will bring back Ian McShane, Bridget Moynahan, John Leguizamo, and Lance Reddick, and include newcomers Laurence Fishburne, Peter Stormare, and Ruby Rose. John Wick Chapter 2 will shoot its way into theaters on February 10, 2017.
