Kiss Manager Doc McGhee Blasts Rock and Roll Hall of Fame [VIDEO]
Passengers on board the recent Kiss Kruise had a chance to lob a few questions at the legendary band’s manager last month, and inevitably their exclusion from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame came up. Doc McGhee didn’t dance around the subject. If the band is nominated for 2013 it won’t be because he’s saying all the right things.
“You have to remember that the Hall of Fame is made up of a boy’s club in New York,” McGhee says in the video below. “And they would rather take an Ethiopian sax player that played on some obscure f—in’ record then to put Kiss, or Bon Jovi, Rush, Def Leppard, any of those bands …”
Bon Jovi was nominated last year, and McGhee said he told their lead singer that he’d be watching McGhee get enshrined before he did. “It’s not really the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when you have Donna Summer, and you have Blondie mixed in. And so you go, ‘I’m not sure that if we got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame if we’d go.’”
Other topics covered in the Q&A included how to make Kiss feel more comfortable on the cruise, the difference between managing Motley Crue and Kiss, and former Kiss members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. McGhee says both men came into the group’s 1996 reunion with baggage and things got worse as the years went by, resulting in them once again leaving on their own terms. He applauded Frehley’s recent sobriety, but also declared “I could tell you that I believe that with Eric (Singer) and Tommy (Thayer) it’s the best Kiss I’ve seen.”
