The 4th of July is on a Friday this year, so it's a three-day weekend to chill out, barbecue, and watch the fireworks.  And if you're a competitive eater or just hungry, you can win prizes in a hot-dog-eating contest in Nacogdoches.

The annual Lufkin fireworks display is coming up at Ellen Trout Park from 3pm until 9:15 on the 4th of July.  The City says on its website that L.I.S.D. will be providing shuttle buses from Lufkin High School 5:00 pm till 8:45 pm. and it will take you back after the event.  The fire works display will be shot at 9:15 pm.

In Nacogdoches on the 4th, Texas Farm Bureau Freedom Fest will be happening in Festival Park from 5pm to 9:30pm.  That's just south of the Square.  The Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau says they'll have things for the kids to do, along with food and live music by local bands, and admission is free.  The fireworks will start 30 minutes after dark.

Can your kiddo pack away the hot dogs?  Cool!  How about you?  You all can show off that skill at the  3rd annual All-American Hot Dog Eating Contest  at 6:30 p.m. in Nac on the 4th.  Age groups are:  7-12, 13-17, and 18 and up.  Just register for free the day of the event starting at 5pm at the CVB tent.

We love this time of year!
