We've always known firefighters were heroes, but recently a few in East Texas were given that exact title officially.

The Lufkin Fire Department Honor Guard was recognized last week at the Texas State Forest Festival during the "Hometown Heroes" event.

Back in April, the Lufkin Fire Honor Guard traveled to West, TX to march in a funeral procession for the 14 first responders killed in the fertilizer plant explosion there.  More than two hundred were injured in the blast.

We'll watch for the honor guard continuing to present the colors at local events around East Texas this fall.  Congratulations guys, and thanks for all you do!
