See a need, fill a need.

That could very well be the unofficial motto of the Lufkin High School Drafting Class.

For the past 10 years, students in Robert Foley's drafting class have been designing and helping to build projects for individuals and groups around the area.  I remember their first project was earmarked for Habitat for Humanity.

This time around, 5 LHS seniors have spent the better part of 160 hours drafting a gazebo complete with ramp and entertainment area for area veterans.  Anthony Orta, Dalton Mitchell, Chelsea Reyes, Joel Rodriguez, and Michael Boudreaux designed the plans for the gazebo and they will also help build it. The finished product will be used by the Military Veteran Peer Network (MVPN) which is located on the Northeast Loop in Lufkin.

The goal of the students is to have the gazebo project completely built and dedicated by the time they graduate in late May.  However, that goal is dependent on how quickly they can raise the funds to buy the materials as well as how much help the community can provide in manual labor.  The financial goal is $10,000.  If you can help, please contact Jeffrey Headrick with MVPN at (936)225-2887 or by e-mail at jeffrey.headrick@myburke.org.
