According to a Lufkin Police press release, the department is investigating an overnight shooting that sent a Lufkin man to a local hospital.

Dispatch received a call at 12:06 a.m. Thursday, June 15th, from 314 E. Howe Avenue of a man who had been shot in the head. The suspect, later identified as Michael Fore, 50, of Lufkin, fled the scene before officers arrived. The victim, Jeffrey Harris, 44, of Lufkin, was taken by ambulance to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Lufkin and is expected to recover.

After identifying Fore as the shooter, officers drove by his home at 418 Homer Street, and found him to be there. The Special Response Team and the Department’s hostage negotiators were brought in to make contact with Fore, as he was considered armed and dangerous. When hostage negotiators began loud hailing Fore around 2 a.m., three women emerged, but Ford remained inside the home.

After more than an hour of hostage negotiators attempting to talk to Fore with no response, the Special Response Team began firing OC spray into the home. Roughly 30 minutes later, Fore emerged from the home. He was nude and appeared to be intoxicated. Once outside, he stumbled on a stair step and fell to the ground. He was taken to Woodland Heights Medical Center to be medically cleared before being taken to jail. The women said Fore had been smoking K2. They were released from custody after being cleared for warrants.

Charges against Fore are pending and the case remains under investigation.
