Lufkin Teenager Arrested Following 60 Second Chase

According to a report from the Lufkin Police Department, Clarissa Boyd, 19, was arrested after leading an officer on a one-minute, 80 mph vehicle chase early Wednesday morning in north Lufkin.  

When the officer attempted to stop a truck at Ellen Trout Drive and Sayers Street for having a brake light out, the driver slowed to 10 mph and then accelerated more than 80 mph on Sayers Street. The vehicle drove into oncoming traffic at the intersection of Sayers and Kurth.

The officer lost sight of the eastbound truck at Kurth and MLK and ended the pursuit. One minute later, the officer received word of a one-vehicle accident at Loften and Spence and responded to find the suspect vehicle. It sounded as if someone was still inside the vehicle, so the officer attempted to kick out a window, which was partially hidden by tree cover. Officers found the sound to be windshield wipers that had been engaged. The vehicle was empty.

Boyd fled into the woods and was arrested minutes later hiding in some bushes near the railroad tracks. She had scratches all over and a large gash on her forehead where she had apparently hit the windshield during the crash. She was checked out at a local hospital before being taken to jail for evading arrest. She also had a Nacogdoches County warrant for theft.
