As a former dog, cat, squirrel, ferret, and parrot daddy, it's important for your pets to stay healthy, and that means an occasional trip to the vet.

It can sure be pricey sometimes, for example, when my dog "Renegade" thought he was a cat, climbed halfway up a tree stump, then fell to the ground.  X-rays confirming a leg strain only set me back about $75...but that was almost 30 years ago.

On Saturday (April 13), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lone Star Veterinary Clinic, located at 2610 Brentwood Drive, will be set-up for no charge heartworm testing.  Free drinks and refreshments will also be available; just make sure you don't grab a dog biscuit by mistake!

Not only is it Heartworm Awareness & Prevention Day, but "Baby Dog Rescue" will have pooches available for adoption.  Click here for more.
