MacGruber 2 has become one of those lifelong dreams that by this point, only seems further from the realm of possibility. Will Forte and director Jorma Taccone have been talking about a sequel to their 2010 comedy for years, even teasing fans with their awesome idea for a cold open. But now, finally, the clouds have parted and the sun has shined down on a script for MacGruber 2.

Taccone tweeted a photo on Monday announcing that he and Forte have started writing the script for the sequel.

Don’t believe him? Here’s the physical evidence:

IT. IS. HAPPENING. Or almost. We can only assume the project is still in the early phase – the script says “Super Duper Rough,” after all. Forte has said in that past that he’s only waiting on a break from his Fox comedy Last Man on Earth to have time to work on a MacGruber sequel. The show kicked off its third season last night, so hopefully we’ll get more news on a sequel once it wraps.

The original 2010 film was far from a critical or box office success, bringing in only $9.3 million and a 47 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. But there’s no denying MacGruber has a passionate fanbase. And sure, most (if not all) comedy sequels suck, but at the very least audiences are going to flock to see this one if only to find out what the heck Forte’s idea for a cold open is, which he’s described as “pretty gnarly.” Make it happen guys.
