This post contains spoilers for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

When Mads Mikkelsen was announced as joining the cast of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, most assumed he would be playing a villain, because c’mon…he’s Mads Mikkelsen. We’ve heard precious little about his character, who was conspicuously absent from the recent trailer, but now Mads is here to provide some details against his better judgment.

Mikkelsen was a guest on Sky News this morning promoting his upcoming movie Men and Chicken and talk quickly turned to his role in the upcoming Star Wars spinoff. Mads was refreshingly honest, something he would immediately regret.

I read the script, and it was very beautiful, and there’s this lovely, young, strong woman, and I play her…father. That was too much, I’m sorry.

Now this was after he says, “I can tell you nothing about it,” and then proceeds to tell us exactly who his character is.

Felicity Jones plays Jyn Erso in the film and it was heavily implied that her character was an orphan. It turns out though that she has a father, Mr. Erso, and he’s not a bad guy. At least he doesn’t want to be a bad guy.

The current rumor has it that Mikkelsen’s character is actually one of the chief architects of the Death Star, but begins to feel guilty about the weapon of mass destruction he is building. So, to redeem himself, he becomes a part of his daughter’s team to steal the plans and hand them over to the Rebel Alliance.

How that Mads Mikkelsen has let slip his Rogue One identity, it may be time to start asking him lots of Doctor Strange questions to see what he offers up.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16.
