This may sound weird… actually, scratch that… this will definitely sound weird. Mastodon bassist / vocalist Troy Sanders just gave us a scoop that he and Mastodon bandmate Brent Hinds will be rebooting an old project called Turd Factory, which Sanders describes as the weirdest band he’s ever been a part of.

We recently invited Gone is Gone to our studio, and while taping our upcoming podcast with the group, we did a ‘Rocker vs. Writer’ segment on the greatest “weird” band of all time. When asked about rock and metal’s quintessential weird band, Sanders responded, “This might be cheating a little bit, but this is a project I was involved in that was the weirdest thing I’ve ever heard. Brent Hinds and myself, we had a brief band that I’m really trying to bring back and it’s the weirdest thing I was ever a part of and it was very, very enjoyable… Turd Factory.”

Sanders continued, “It was short-lived and a lot of fun … We’re gonna have a new release coming out, I’m gonna go ahead and say it. It’s gonna come out at the end of 2017.”

Troy wouldn’t tell us exactly what Turd Factory sounds like, but the apparent album may be released via Black Dune Records, which has put out Gone is Gone’s self-titled EP and debut full-length, Echolocation.

So stay tuned for Turd Factory’s debut to drop in late 2017! As for Mastodon’s seventh full-length, the much-anticipated album will come in spring 2017.
