Sort of like Independence Day, today (September 17) commemorates the 225th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution.

Bringing the events of 1787 back to life is the Nacogdoches chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Old University Building will be the place to celebrate this afternoon at 3 p.m., where the bell will be rung 225 times!.  The Preamble to the Constitution (I remember having to memorize this in high school) will be read by Daniel Rogers, dressed a revolutionary soldier.

Daughters of the American Revolution intend to keep the past alive by education, patriotism, and preserving historic events.

Constitution "week" (September 17-23) symbolizes the protection and defense of the Constitution by its citizens.  It was signed into public law by Dwight Eisenhower in 1956.
