Austin is a pretty cool city.  Most of us have spent quite a bit of time there, or at the very least we've visited Town Lake and seen the Stevie Ray Vaughan statue.

The Huffington Post gave some ink to Austin on Thursday, and mentioned some places that are a little more off-the-beaten path and perhaps ones we haven't seen.

The Huffington Post blog did mention The Hula Hut, and that's a spot you've probably been to.  I lived in Austin for five years and I frequented that spot for a margarita and one of those giant tubular tacos!  The food in Austin is fantastic, and as the Huffington Post points out, it prides itself on lacking chain restaurants and having an abundance of mom-and-pop restaurants and hole-in-the-walls that have gained a following.  Austin supports independence.

The blog also mentioned Uchiko and Annie's, which are hidden gems.

And then there's 6th Street, with a plethora of live jazz, rock, bluegrass, alternative, folk and pop.  Kinda makes me want to make a weekend of it!

Thanks, Huffington Post, for the reminder that Texas has a pretty cool capitol city.   But we just may argue over which Texas city has the best football team.  Any Aggies in the house?
