Noel Gallagher Used to Torment Brother Liam Over Fear of Ghosts
Just weeks ago, they had this dust-up, when Noel and former rival Damon Albarn were trading insults about Liam. There was this incident late last year when Noel trashed his brother for not showing up for the Oasis documentary premiere. Of course, who can forget when Liam decided his brother looked like a potato? And, at times, they vowed never to forgive each other.
But in a story from the Mirror, we learn that Noel Gallagher is just like any big brother: He found his little brother Liam’s weakness and capitalized on it —for years. In this case, that weakness was a fear of ghosts.
Liam has long been terrified of evil spirits, the British tabloid reported, and Noel wasn’t about to let that fear go to waste when the band was holed up together during the 1996 sessions for Be Here Now at the Farm in Surrey, England. All of the brothers’ drinking and drug use certainly didn’t help.
“We convinced him his bedroom was haunted, so when he’d get up in the morning and go and have his breakfast, someone would go in and turn the pictures back to front, or f—ing move a lamp beside his bed across the other side of the room,” Noel said.
“He’d arrive pale: ‘Have you been in my f—ing room?’ ‘No, why?’ ‘You’ve been in my room, because now the f—ing lamp is in the toilet.’ ‘No way, f—ing hell. Wow,’” he continued.
Noel called it “amusing” and “worth it.”
