The election is over, and a choice for a new leader has been made. That's right -- Ozzy Osbourne has been crowned the President of Heavy Metal by readers of our companion site, Loudwire!

Unlike the real election, which only allowed for some early voting, the President of Heavy Metal ballot-casting has been going on for several weeks with some of metal's top performers waging online and word-of-mouth campaigns of their own to advance in the elections.

Osbourne defeated GWAR's Oderus Urungus, Tool's Maynard James Keenan, and Judas Priest's Rob Halford prior to his final round match against Rob Zombie. The former White Zombie frontman didn't exactly have an easy path himself, as he defeated Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, Megadeth's Dave Mustaine, and Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister to make it to the finals.

Both Osbourne and Zombie had some of the most dedicated fan bases in the entire voting process, with both artists actively campaigning in recent weeks via their social networking and official website platforms. Zombie's team created specially crafted graphics for multiple Facebook postings, while Osbourne's team went all in with a vintage 'Ozzy for President' button that made the rounds online. In addition, Osbourne's bandmates, wife, and son Jack all sought out votes via Twitter.

After tabulating the 100,000-plus votes, Osbourne narrowly defeated Zombie by a margin of 50.82 percent to 49.18 percent. We're not sure exactly what duties Osbourne will have as the President of Heavy Metal, but at least he already has some experience as "The Prince of Darkness."
