Parents Go to Great Lengths to Make the 4th Fun

It’s an interesting dilemma for parents today. Kids love watching fireworks, but the public displays can’t start until it gets dark, and that means we have to wait 9:30 or 10:00 to catch a glimpse of the fireworks, and by the time we get the kids home to bed it’s 11:00 or later. That’s LATE if you have kids under five years old. And then Thursday is a big ole mess with those little biological clocks thrown off and grouchiness galore. What to do, what to do.

Wanna enact our plan? We’re having a wild and crazy 4th of July party at home today. It keeps the kids excited and entertained, it involves legal fireworks, and you can have the young ‘uns asleep by 9:00 or 9:30. See how elaborate it gets.

‘Kool And The Gang’ Performing On The Fourth of July [VIDEO]

While they may be considered anything classic, with the exception of classic rock, nothing says Independence Day more than -- Kool and the Gang?

I'm laughing as I write, because back in the day, I paid top $$ for a "KATG" concert ticket.  Now their performing on PBS with the National Symphony Orchestra?  That's like the Dallas "Southfork Ranch" with an outhouse!  But, if  "Kool" plays "Too Hot" (pardon the pun), it won't become a total loss.

TV Icon Andy Griffith Dead at 86 [VIDEO]

I would like to believe that going hand in hand with classic rock is classic television.  The two really are inseparable when it comes comparing great programming to over-the-top musical artistry.

The "Skipper" couldn't do it without "Gilligan", "Jimi" couldn't do it without the guitar; The Beverly Hillbillies would have choked without "Jethro"; "Styx", although still sounding great today, are not the same if Dennis DeYoung isn't ground breaking the "Tradewinds" in 1961; and on and on the cycle goes.

The rumors are swirling, so let's make sure we have the right comedian coming to East Texas.

He was born in Tennessee, raised in Arkansas, and Sam Kinison was his comic idol.  He graduated from a Performing Arts school in Houston before moving to L.A. to pursue his entertainment career.  In 2003 he participated in season one of Last Comic Standing where he finished in second place.

Sportscaster Erin Andrews Finds New Home on FOX

Sports fans, in particular fans of nationally renowned (and occasionally peeped on) sportscaster Erin Andrews were likely dismayed last week to learn that their favorite blonde would no longer call ESPN home, but instead would seek employment elsewhere.  A week later, there’s been little apart from speculation, but where will Andrews next take up a permanent position?

Nacogdoches Marine Makes Memorable Return

Imagine you're a kid getting ready to play a game with your 10-and-under softball team, and all of a sudden a stream of police vehicles come into the parking lot and approach the field.

A little scary? Then you learn it's your dad, a marine, who has been away for an extended period on a military deployment. Surprise! Welcome home Dad. That emotional moment happened Friday night in Nacogdoches.
