Paul Simon and Sting Will Tour Together in 2014
For now, the former New York City neighbors have revealed only that they will be playing 18 dates together between Feb. 8 and March 16, 2014. More dates are expected to be announced. “Paul and I both share this abiding curiosity about music and where it’s going,” Sting told the New York Times. “We don’t really know where this is going. We don’t really have a clue how this is going to pan out.”
Apparently the tour -- titled Paul Simon & Sting: On Stage Together -- is more of a greatest-hits kinda thing rather than an opportunity for each artist to showcase new music (Simon's most recent work is from 2011; Sting, on the other hand, has a new album out). In addition to performing their own songs, Simon and Sting will play some of their favorites together.
In May, they played Simon's 'The Boxer' and Sting's 'Fields of Gold' together during a benefit show. That planted the seeds for next year's tour, Simon said. “After we finished it, we both looked at each other and said, 'Wow. That’s pretty interesting,’” he said.
But they've known each other for a far longer period. The singer-songwriters lived in the same New York building years ago. Sting joked that “for 20 years, this guy would be borrowing things all the time. Then I heard he was a songwriter.”
Each artist will be backed by his regular band onstage. Tickets for some of the concerts are expected to go on sale on Wednesday (Nov. 6).
