More than 150,000 people were in downtown Nashville on New Year's Eve to usher in 2016 with an eclectic assemblage of musicians including arena rockers Kings of Leon, country crossover darling Chris Stapleton and indie outfit Wild Cub.

The festivities came to a close with a massive onstage collaboration between (recent Grammy nominee) Stapleton and Kings of Leon who performed a pretty faithful rendition of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic "Simple Man." Check out footage above.

Kings of Leon frontman Caleb Followill and Stapleton take turns at the mic through all four verses of the epic cut, and Kings of Leon's Matthew Followill delivers a few lighter-worthy solos. Of course, to compare and contrast, you can also listen to Deftones' version of the song from their 2005 B-sides album here.

Kings of Leon are planning to release their follow-up to 2013's Mechanical Bull sometime this year.
