Queen’s Brian May Contacts Lady Gaga About Fronting the Band

Queen is looking to fill the void left by the late Freddie Mercury, and Lady Gaga is being considered for it. Guitarist Brian May previously reached out to Bad Company leader Paul Rodgers, but now it looks as though the pop diva is at the top of the list.

“We talk about going out on the road all the time, but there’s a bit of a singer problem, to put it mildly,” May said recently at an awards event in London, referring to his group. “I worked with Lady Gaga, and she’s very creative and is someone we’ve talked about singing, fronting the band with. She’s not just a singer, she writes her own material.”

At the very least, May added, Gaga seems committed to participating in a possible guest-filled TV special centered around his British band.

Mercury, an original member of Queen, fronted the group until his death at age 45 on November 24, 1991. The Queen-Rodgers partnership — officially billed as Queen + Paul Rodgers — ended on good terms in 2009, the year after their lone studio album, ‘The Cosmos Rocks,’ was released.
