Queen Set to Take Over ‘American Idol’

All hail the Queen! Founding Queen members guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor will be making their return to the ‘American Idol’ stage on next week’s episode (April 25). The two will perform with the six remaining finalists. Coincidentally, that will not include resident “rocker” Colton Dixon who was unceremoniously ousted from the show last evening, surprising everyone.

In an ironic turn of events, poised Freddie-fill-in Adam Lambert also won’t be joining Queen on ‘Idol’ this time around; the former ‘Idol’ runner up and potential Queen frontman already has his own gig planned on ‘Jimmy Kimmel’ that night.

Lambert’s performance with Queen of their classic hit ‘We Are The Champions’ on the finale of season eight led to May and Taylor collaborating with Lambert later on down the road, so you never know what dreams might come true when Queen steps on stage.

‘American Idol’ aims to deliver a one-two Queen punch with official tribute band the Queen Extravaganza performing on the second night, softening the blow of that nasty evening when someone inevitably goes home.

The Queen Extravaganza isn’t just your average cover band though, the group was hand-picked and personally assembled by May and Taylor after holding open auditions online. After much care and consideration the best of the best were put together and the Queen Extravaganza was born.

The ‘Idol’ performance will serve as a warm-up gig for the cast as The Queen Extravaganza is gearing up for a national tour that kicks off in May. The tour features four different vocalists and a visual feast for the senses of never-before-seen Queen footage complementing the live performances.
