Rare Red Hot Chili Peppers Song ‘Circle of the Noose’ Leaked Online

The Red Hot Chili Peppers-era featuring Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro lasted one album, but before the split, Navarro had begun working with the band on new music that ultimately did not surface. However, one of the tracks from that time period has now found its way online.

According to Alternative Nation, the band had penned a track called "Circle of the Noose" as a tribute to devotional singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The song was recorded in 1997 and has remained unreleased until now. An account under the name rhcptv5 posted the song on YouTube and then tweeted to some of the members who took part in the session. Navarro responded as can be be seen in the tweet below.

During a 1997 interview with Allstar, Navarro commented (as transcribed by Alternative Nation), "One of the songs we’ve done is the greatest pop song I’ve ever been a part of … It’s pop in the sense of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, hook. I really love it and we use a loop of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. It’s really nice. The best way I can describe it is it’s like pepped- up ’60s folk with ’90s ideals, but I would hate to label it as folk because it’s not, it moves."

As you can hear in the player above, the track starts out with a more percussive vibe, before picking up the pace and floating along effortlessly with a more melodic feel. And while the band's work with Navarro was ill-fated in the long run, it does appear that "Circle of the Noose" was an untapped gem.

These days, the Red Hot Chili Peppers are in the process of wrapping up a new album. Look for new music, expected to surface later this year.
