Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Josh Klinghoffer Plays Solo Performance of Chris Cornell’s ‘Seasons’ in Indianapolis

In a band filled with big personalities, guitarist Josh Klinghoffer is often the furthest away from the spotlight for Red Hot Chili Peppers. But with the death of Chris Cornell Wednesday night (May 17), the stage was all his for a special part of the band’s set in Indianapolis on Thursday (May 18).

After the band played the body of their set, Klinghoffer came out alone to start the encore armed with his guitar as he stepped up to the mic and performed a moving rendition of the Chris Cornell song “Seasons” from the Singles soundtrack. While tackling a Cornell vocal is no easy thing, Klinghoffer did quite well with the performance, which can be seen in the fan-shot video above.

Klinghoffer’s ability to come close to Cornell’s vocal has worked out for the Chili Peppers once before, as the guitarist also took the stage last November in Austria, performing Temple of the Dog‘s “All Night Thing” in honor of the band returning to the stage. You can see fan-shot footage of that below.

So far, acts including Megadeth, Stone Sour and Scott Stapp have all taken the stage and offered tributes to the late vocalist. Cornell died at the age of 52 Wednesday night (May 17) in the hours after Soundgarden’s performance.
