Stephen F. Austin State University is looking for a new football coach.

In a press conference Monday, the director of athletics Robert Hill announced that head coach J.C. Harper had been fired, effective immediately.  Hill said at the press conference the decision was made to make a change in football leadership, and he informed Harper of the decision at a meeting Monday morning.

Harper spent seven seasons at the helm for the Jacks, and finished with a career record of 37-45.  The search is on now for Harper's replacement, and there's no word yet on who the potential candidates might be, or when the school might aim to have the new hire in place.

Harper started as a defensive coordinator at SFA, and moved into the head coaching role before the 2007 season.
