Side Two of The Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’ Covered By 17-Year-Old Dylan Gardner

Leave a 17-year-old alone in the house for any extended period of time and you’re bound to end up with trouble. Or, in the case of young Dylan Gardner’s parents, you might find yourself listening to your son cover side two of the Beatles‘ ‘Abbey Road’ in 15-second installments.

You can watch the whole thing in the video embedded above; titled #DylanBrokeUpTheBeatles, it displays Gardner’s instrumental chops and vocal skill, not to mention a deep affection for the classic swan song from one of rock’s all-time greatest bands. In the clip, he employs a different instrument on each song, and displays a bit of cleverness, playing ‘Mean Mr. Mustard’ in front of an open refrigerator and staring out a bathroom window during ‘She Came in Through the Bathroom Window.’

Posted April 9 to coincide with the 44th anniversary of the Beatles’ breakup, it serves as a youthful homage to what Gardner calls “an incredible ending note for a great career” as well as a nifty calling card for Gardner’s own upcoming LP. As he puts it in the video’s YouTube description, “It’s just me around the house having a blast covering my heroes!”

Boing Boing spoke briefly with Gardner, who explained, “The Beatles have been such a huge part of my musical upbringing, so I couldn’t think of a better afternoon than stealing my parents’ new video camera and running around my empty house covering the better side of ‘Abbey Road’ in Instagram-sized videos. I’d tie a zip tie around the camera to hold angles as I grabbed as many miscellaneous instruments as I could. I made a mess of the house, but the bright side is this isn’t the last time I’ll do that…”

Gardner’s debut record, ‘Adventures in Real Time,’ is scheduled for release on May 13; you can pre-order the album here, and learn more about his music at his official site.
