We still don’t know when we’ll hear him play guitar again, but Eddie Van Halen is putting at least one of his axes to good use right now: he’s offering it up for auction, with the proceeds going to benefit the Drop in the Bucket charity — and the winner walking away with a true one-of-a-kind instrument.

The guitar in question is a 1999 Wolfgang Translucent Cherry Sunburst 5A Flametop, autographed by EVH himself and complete with a certificate of authenticity. One of the first Wolfgangs ever produced, it’s been owned by Eddie since it was made.

Through the years, Motley Crue has spent a lot of time rocking Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood, Calif., with the legendary Whisky A Go-Go club among its many haunts.

So if any band deserves to be honored at the 2011 Sunset Strip Music Festival, it’s the Crue. The tribute, set for Aug. 18, is going to involve real whiskey: special-edition bottles of Jack Daniel’s, with proceeds going to a charity that’s very dear to one Crue member.

The metal super-group Whocares, which consists of Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain, Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, former Deep Purple members Jon Lord and guitarist Linde Lindstrom, will release its debut songs "Out of My Mind" and "Holy Water" on May 6th, all for charity.
