Lufkin and Nacogdoches Plan Christmas Events

At some stores and homes, the Christmas decorations were up before Thanksgiving.

Those of us that did put up the Christmas tree before carving the turkey have been accused of breaking holiday rules, but rather than rebellion, we rule breakers argue it's convenient. With the decorating out of the way we could concentrate on matters like shopping.

Now that Thanksgiving is officially behind us, the rule followers are breaking out the Christmas lights too. Lufkin will light up the season with a Christmas parade on Tuesday.

Nice Turn-out For Hotel Fredonia Car Show

Saturday (August 25) was probably one of the nicest days we have seen here in East Texas in a long time.  The sun peeked in and out between the puffy white clouds and the temperature hovered near 85 most of the day with low humidity.

The Hotel Fredonia and RG Car Show Productions put on a spectacular event in downtown Nacogdoches which saw over 50 entries from car enthusiasts around the region.

Nacogdoches ‘American Legion Post 86′ Raising Money For Veterans

Don't want to openly 'dis on how our veterans are treated after active duty, but this may get your blood stirring.

Remember those three branches of government you learned about in elementary school?  What were they now?  Oh yeah, the "Executive", "Legislative", and "Judicial".

Well, the political faction gets a mountain of benefits after their term has concluded, while many members of our armed forces past and present, struggle to cope with physical and mental illness, in addition to making a decent salary.

Then they have to listen to yet another spineless blow-hard on CNBC talk about the need to close another veteran's hospital, all while explaining the urgency to study the mating habits of the nine tentacle octopus on Flag Day.

Nacogdoches is Your Place For Karaoke [VIDEO]

Ever wish you could step up to the microphone and sound like Foreigner frontman Lou Gramm, or how about Queen's Freddie Mercury, or even Tommy Shaw of Styx when he sings "Crystal Ball"

Well, you may not have the right technique, or vocal range to pull it off, but then most of your audience won't know that either if you can master basic Karaoke.

Did You Know? Infamous Couple Had Ties to Nacogdoches [VIDEO]

Clyde Barrow, who never lived up to his middle name "Champion", along with outlaw girlfriend Bonnie Parker, have a unique connection in Texas history.  Namely, Clyde's mother, "Cumie", whom according to legend, was born in Nacogdoches.  It is also presumed that his grandparents also resided in East Texas.

Now for the folklore, that Bonnie waited tables in NAC?  Where the Oldtime String Shop currently resides?  It's entirely up to you to "believe, or not believe".

Top US Small Towns Named

There's something inherently cool about a small town. The people are nice (although they all know each other and can be in everyone's business), there's no traffic, and the stress level can be lower. I'm headed to my one-stoplight hometown in Nebraska for a little family bonding time next week and we're planning to sit on the deck and stare at the trees, and ask the local farmers for permission to walk into their fields and pick corn. Why vacation in a tropical location when you can have that kind of fun? Small towns rock.

Rand McNally and USA Today named the best small towns in all of America this week. Did Lufkin and Nacogdoches make the list?

Natural Gas Rates May Increase in Lufkin, Nacogdoches and Surrounding Areas

This affects all of us.  Last night the City of Lufkin considered a 90 day moratorium of CenterPoint Energy's natural gas hike request.

It has always struck me with bewilderment that utility companies are on the front line of rate hikes at a seemingly alarming rate.  According to the latest figures, residential customers would see an average increase of around 11.8%.

Lamp-Lite’s Theatre ‘Annie’, Coming To Nacogdoches [VIDEO]

Whether it's a full scale Broadway production, television special, film release, or Community Theatre performance, the plot has remained the same since 1977, when the original 'Annie' debuted to audiences with all the pomp and circumstance it was billed at.

I've had the pleasure of seeing this show some ten times in my lifetime, with each one awesome in its own right.  A huge supporter of local Community Theatre, this is one of the hidden treasures of seeing the show in a largely intimate setting, and now is your chance to join me in welcoming 'Annie' to Nacogdoches.
