The rumors are true: SNL is taking Weekend Update out for a primetime spin once more. Seeing as today’s news is never not in need of incisive comedy, Colin Jost and Michael Che will end their summer breaks early to bring new half-hour Weekend Update episodes to NBC.

At the time NBC confirmed Hannibal alum Bryan Fuller to be working on a new iteration of Amazing Stories, the showrunner’s plate seemed exceptionally full. Thankfully, Fuller will have strong writers to lighten the load, now confirmed as everyone from Patton Oswalt to Jane Goldman.

We’ve seen NBC’s DC Comics comedy Powerless take a number of shapes since development, and if you caught some of the early pilot trailers, you’ll barely recognize the final product. Get a look at Wayne Security in a revamped premise trailer for Powerless, ahead of a February premiere.

We’re still trying to wrap our heads around a Taken prequel that somehow takes place in the modern day (“I will find you, and I will kill you” will look great in HoloChat), but NBC’s February premiere has finally granted us an official trailer. Trump cabinet picks have been bad, but not Breaking Bad, at least until now. The SNL cold open for John Cena’s debut hour got Bryan Cranston reprising his iconic role as Walter White, tapped to head the DEA (what else) in the new administration.

We’re still on the fence over DC branching out into live-action comedy with NBC’s upcoming Powerless, particularly after a bit of creative trouble, but we finally know when the series will suit up. NBC has selected a February date for the series, along with slots for a Blacklist spinoff, another Chicago and more.

SNL came in pretty close to the wire for Season 42, and just over a week from the fall 2016 premiere, our first host and musical guests have arrived. Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie will lead the October 1 premiere with musical accompaniment by The Weeknd.

It’s taken forever and a day to finally see both Arnold Schwarzenegger taking the Celebrity Apprentice desk, and Emerald City come to life, but NBC has finally made a firm commitment. Both high-profile new series have set January bows, just barely into 2017.
