A sad day for fans of Powers Boothe, as the revered character actor has apparently passed away. The sinister-voiced star was well-remembered for his role as one of Deadwood’s big bads, as well as appearances in everything from Sin City to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It’s been a rough week (it’s only Wednesday), and things just got a little more upsetting: Michael Parks, the incomparable character actor best known for his roles in Twin Peaks, Kill Bill and From Dusk Till Dawn, has passed away at the age of 77. Kevin Smith broke the news this morning on Instagram, where he shared a tribute to the star of his horror films Tusk and Red State.

The film world lost one of its great today. Jonathan Demme, the director of some of the most influential and beloved movies in history, has died. According to Indiewire, the cause was “esophageal cancer and complications from heart disease.” He was initially treated for the disease in 2010, and then suffered a reoccurrence a few years ago. Demme was just 73 years old.

Every Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle fan will remember Charlie Murphy; edgier stand-up comedian and source of the famous “True Hollywood Stories” that launched Chappelle’s Show into the stratosphere. Sadly, Charlie Murphy is no longer with us, having passed away at age 57.

Lovers of classic film have lost one of their greatest champions. Robert Osborne, the longtime host of Turner Classic Movies, has passed away at the age of 84. Here is the statement from TCM, via Twitter:

Twin Peaks has lost yet another of its returning Showtime cast, as star and co-creator Mark Frost’s father Warren is no longer with us. The Twin Peaks coroner and sometime Seinfeld star has passed away at age 91.

Unbeatable entertainer Debbie Reynolds, star of Singin’ in the Rain and mother to Carrie Fisher, has died at the age of 84 after suffering a stroke earlier on Wednesday.

Before the era of reality television popularized the concept of “being famous for being famous,” Hungarian-born actress Zsa Zsa Gabor elevated celebrity to its own sort of art form. She brought her European sense of sophistication to a handful of big-name films as their star, including John Huston’s Moulin Rouge. (The famed director described Gabor as a “creditable” actress.) Mostly, however, she commanded gossip headlines with her flashy and impossibly ritzy personal life. The revolving door of husbands, the uniform of furs and jewels she was seldom seen without, the way she purred “dahhhhling” to everyone she addressed — even offscreen, she was a larger-than-life character.

As 2016 seems to be an unendingly cruel mistress, another beloved TV parent has left us behind. Alan Thicke, actor behind Growing Pains patriarch Jason Seaver has passed away at age 69. The acclaimed sitcom star had only days earlier made a surprise cameo in the second season of Netflix’s Fuller House.

Although his watch had since ended on the series, Game of Thrones fans no doubt remember the inimitable Peter Vaughan, actor behind the wise and enigmatic Maester Aemon. Word now comes that the actor has passed away at age 93, following a distinguished career that also includes the U.K.’s Porridge and Citizen Smith.

Unfortunate news for fans of Firefly and accomplished film and TV actor Ron Glass, as the Emmy-nominated Barney Miller star has passed away at age 71. Glass had also appeared in everything from The Twilight Zone to Friends, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

For every cinephile and aspiring filmmaker interested in the worlds of horror and exploitation, it is a rite of passage: The first viewing of Blood Feast. Notorious in its day, infamous for decades for its extreme violence and graphic depictions of blood and guts, Blood Feast became one of the foundational movies of the splatter subgenre. Sadly, its director, Herschell Gordon Lewis, the so-called “Godfather of Gore,” passed away today according to Blood Feast’s DVD distributor, Something Weird Video. He was 87 years old.
