He was born Philip Wallach Blondheim, but changed his name to Scott McKenzie after a comedian suggested that the singer had a remarkable resemblance to a Scottie dog.
McKenzie palled around with "Papa" John Phillips where they both played in a band called the "Abstracts" before forming the group the "Journeymen" with his long time buddy.
