Texas Has 14 Of The Biggest High Schools In The US

I graduated with 12 people in my high school class in Nebraska, so it's hard for me to comprehend a high school where there are three thousands students.  That's huge! Or maybe it's time to admit my little class of six boys and six girls was abnormally tiny.  I graduated at the top of my class, but I don't spend much time telling people I only had 11 people behind me.  Shh...don't tell!  And those that graduated in the top 50 percent were actually in the top six.  That' doesn't happen often.

Back-To-School Pics Dominate Facebook

I love looking at all the back-to-school pics on social media this time of year.

One of my sassy, fun (and kid-less) Facebook friends posted this on Monday, "Um...Did school start?" Haha! What makes you say that?!

East Texas Students Learn to Make Toothpaste

Ever tried to make your own toothpaste?  I would imagine it's not easy.  That's why we usually leave it to Crest, Colgate, and Aquafresh.

Some Lufkin science students have become toothpaste experts, and made their own!

You might think you'd have to be a high school chemistry student to grasp the toothpaste-making concept, but it's actually Lufkin fifth-graders that have mastered the art.

State police say the driver of the car that collided with an 18-Wheeler Saturday night had been drinking.

Three Stephen F. Austin students were killed in the accident, and one was injured.  Blood test results are still pending, but police think the driver, 19-year old Kevin Garcia, was under the influence of alcohol when he attempted a u-turn from the shoulder of the road, and entered the path of an oncoming 18-wheeler.

Lufkin 4th Graders Recognized for Design Skills

Handicapped dogs may soon benefit from the work of some Lufkin 4th graders. Students at Brandon Elementary recently learned that a New Hampshire-based website picked up on their idea of new and improved “drag bags” for dogs, which are those things that handicapped dogs can put on, cool off, and move around the yard with a little easier.

Why Did Mesquite High School Officials Yank Yearbooks From Students?

In today's lesson, we're discussing the do's and dont's of publishing material in the high school yearbook, where common sense should prevail on this matter, when considering journalism should be the focal point.

At Mesquite High School in Mesquite, Texas, school officials yanked the yearbook off the shelf -- after distribution.  Why?
